MOVING TO NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands, is a small country, with a population of approximately 14 million people.

The Netherlands capital is Amsterdam, whereas the seat of the government is at the Hague. Last but not least, Rotterdam is the largest port in the world.

Climate

The Netherlands has a maritime climate and the average temperature In summer ranges from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius and in winter from -10 to plus 10 Celsius. During all seasons it can be rainy and especially the coastal part of The Netherlands is rather windy.

Languages

The national language is Dutch, but English and German arc widely spoken.

The current in The Netherlands is 220 volts/50 cycles.

Customs Formalities

Used household effects may be imported dirty free, if the effects have been in use abroad by the owner for at least six months. A detailed inventory of the goods are required for customs clearance.

Automobiles

Used cars may be imported duty free, but the owner has to prove that the car has been used and in their possession abroad for at least six months prior to taking up residence in The Netherlands A copy of the registration card or logbook and a purchase invoice must be available. After custom's clearance the car is only released by customs when the driver can show a valid insurance certificate.

Useful Hints

As a foreigner in The Netherlands it is advisable to contact your nearest embassy or consulate. Embassy's are only located at the Hague, whereas consulates arc established mainly in the Hague, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Several cities have international schools, whereas the Dutch school system meets the highest standards.
