   Get Some Information on Your Destination Country

You may wish to consult some of the following;

The consular office of your destination country.

Your local public library and bookshops. Make sure the books you read are factual and up to date.

Amfreight International Transport also maintains information on most overseas locations and you may access fact sheets from the top navigation bar.

   Apply for passport

Apply for passport if you do not already have one. Send in your application as soon as possible, especially if your move is taking place during a vacation period such as Christmas, etc.

Make arrangements to receive immunizations and vaccinations which may be required in your destination country.

Make your travel arrangements and hotel reservations as required.

   2 Months Before the Move

Settle your legal affairs - Be sure you have all the legal documents you will require overseas, such as birth and marriage certificates, immigration papers, etc.

Decide whether or not you are going to bring your car. Consider the cost of shipping it, customs duties you may have to pay, and the availability of parts overseas. It may be cheaper in the long run to purchase a vehicle at destination.

   1 or 2 Months Before the Move

If you are planning to bring your pet with you, make a veterinary appointment now.

This will leave you enough time for any necessary treatment.

Have any necessary treatment.

Obtain copies of your medical history - including prescriptions, allergies, blood-type, glasses, etc.

Obtain details of your current prescriptions - not the tradename of the medicines, but their generic name and the strength of the various components. Get an extra pair of eyeglasses, if you anticipate them being hard to replace at destination.

Close the credit card accounts you won't be able to use overseas.

Close and open blank accounts, etc. Open a new account with an international bank having facilities at your destination.

   1 or 2 Weeks Before the Move

Ensure Amfreight International Transport has an address and/or a phone number where you can be reached at destination.

Confirm all travel and hotel reservations.

Arrange for sufficient funds to meet you needs until banking services are fully available at destination.

   Make Sure All the Documents You need to Take With You Are on Hand.

The following may be included in your 'carry-with-me' check list;

Be Sure You Do Not Pack any documents you are likely to need while traveling or at destination.

   At Destination

Notify Your Destination Agent immediately upon your arrival overseas so arrangements can be made for customs clearance and pickup or delivery of your goods as the case may be.

They will offer complete services from port of arrival, including customs clearance, delivery and unpacking. Whatever your requirements, you can be assured of professional service at destination.

   All Risk Transit Insurance

All risk, door to door transit insurance is available for your possessions. To effect coverage, you must complete a valued inventory of your goods. Insurance should be purchased for the replacement value of your goods at destination, which may be much higher than at origin. If you do underinsure your goods, any claim may be reduced by a proportionate amount.

Our insurance covers your goods from the time they are picked up to the time they are delivered at destination, including up to 30 days storage at destination if required. You may also extend your coverage for longer periods if your goods have to remain in storage for more than 30 days.
